Kwasi Pryor strives to adapt to the weather and spread the word on intramurals. Pryor, program coordinator for the Longview Recreation Center, recently moved into the KC area and is extremely motivated to pump up the intramurals programs.
From Arlington, Texas, he is not sure about the odd weather patterns we have in KC, though he attended Mid American Nazarene collage in Olathe, where he participated in football and track. Pryor’s love for athletics and physical fitness inspired him to earn a physical education degree and the program coordinator position at Longview, which he finds exciting and rewarding.
Pryor feels that by encouraging the students’ involvement in intramurals, he can help achieve a more interactive campus environment for the students. Intramurals is a chance for students to gain a sense of wellness and escape from the strain of classes and homework. Pryor understands the pressure students are under and hopes to relieve some of it. Pryor hopes to improve and expand the intramurals programs to help coordinate a feeling of variety and relaxation on campus.
Presently, intramurals offers basketball and volleyball. Pryor hopes to expand this selection into new and more flexible directions. Some of Pryor’s ideas include flag football, water relays and a few less active sports ranging from video game tournaments like John Maden’s football to World Cup soccer.
Being the program coordinator is a busy job that includes many other responsibilities than just intramurals. In the near future Pryor hopes to start three-on-three tournaments in volleyball and basketball. The Rec. Center is a busy place and has lots of groups who require the use of the gym. It also offers community programs like swim lessons, volleyball and basketball leagues. Pryor encourages all students to get involved.
