MCC-Penn Valley’s Panache Fashion Showcase – the longest-running juried fashion show for students in the metro area — is just around the corner. The runway show featuring portfolio collections by Penn Valley design students will be held on Thursday, April 18.
The Merchandising and Marketing class is in charge of putting on the show, advertising the show, and making sure things run smoothly. The class is also in charge of developing the theme for the show, which this year is “Fashion Outside the Box.” The Design and Product Development class is in charge of designing and creating the collections for the show. Students in this class spend the entire semester creating the collections for their final portfolio.
Jason Johnson is a graduating student taking both the Merchandising and Marketing class as well as the Design and Product Development class. “I’m excited that I get to incorporate my own interests into the show and be able to bring those interests to a mainstream audience through my collection,” said Johnson. Have you ever wanted to know the inspiration behind a piece of art work? Artist Talk is a time when you can do just that. Rita Blitt’s work in a show entitled Discovering and Sharing at Penn Valley’s Carter Art Center and Longview’s Cultural Arts Center.
Blitt is known for her flowing lines, and is showing a ten piece painting set entitled “A Sacred Moment.” Blitt not only has paintings on display, but is displaying sculptures as well. The show will run until November 5.
During the Artist Talk, the artist will speak about her work and the inspiration behind the pieces. This is a time when the audience gets to ask the artist questions find out what she was thinking and how each piece came about.

Fifty-five donors participated in the blood drive held on the Penn Valley campus March 29, collecting 39 pints of blood. The Staff Association at Penn Valley, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, hosted the event. Among the participants were 32 first-time donors and 16 staff members from MCC-Penn Valley.
