Rogue parkers keep campus police busy

Student parking sometimes conflicts with employee parking in a way that directly affects Longview’s police department. On campus, students at Longview can be heard moaning about their issues with parking. With several parking lots that fill up quickly, spots disappear fast as the day starts and progresses. Being late can cause students to park in places where they are not supposed to park, without thinking about the consequences. These decisions pose issues for employees across campus. According to Jim Brewer, senior officer of MCCPD, students parking in incorrect parking spots have become a continuous issue at Longview.
“Students make their own spots by parking in unmarked spots. This creates issues for emergencies, limiting the places where emergency vehicles can park,” said Brewer. [...]
Crosswalk is a hazard

The crosswalks in front of MCC-Longview, Kessler Drive and Fascination Drive at Longview Road, are causing some worry for students at MCC-Longview.
“It’s never been a huge problem, but it could be safer in between classes when there is more traffic,” said student Josh Zans. [...]

It is ten minutes until class and the anxiety hits. Pulling into the parking lot, it is apparent. There are no parking spaces. Anxiety worsens and a decision must be made: Wait for a student to leave campus or park far away.

LV parking lot C to close for repair

Longview’s parking lot C will close beginning Wednesday, Oct. 27 for extensive repairs.
According to Facilities Services Superintendent Steve Greife, two light pole bases will be replaced, and curb and asphalt work must be completed before winter. The work is expected to take about three weeks, weather permitting.
Lot C lies between the Rec Center parking lot and the Campus Center.
