This year’s volleyball team is off to a fantastic start with a record of 8-0 and is performing very well as a team. The roster includes freshmen Jessica Hawley and Jenny Bass. Sophomores are Kari McWilliams, Kami Manuel, Becca Arnold, Jana Marler, Laura Collins, Heather Kellam and Angela Wisemore.
New coach Darrin McBroom has done a great job at motivating the team and creating a sense of unity in the players. McBroom said, “The teams’ strengths lie in their very strong hitters, a very talented setter and great passers.” He attributes their record to working are “playing for each other.”
“The team wants to win the Regional Championship which the team accomplished last year and four out of the past six years and hopefully win the district championship and then go on to win the National Championship.”
McBroom’s only critique on the team is that they need to fine tune the defense which is a defense the team is not completely used to yet.
The crowd at the games is loud and is proud of their Lakers volleyball team and the team welcomes all students to attend the games and cheer this team on. It truly is amazing that a team can do this well with only two returning players and a new coach. This team is very new to each other but are gelling very well as a team and are capable of accomplishing amazing feats this season.
