The Longview Lakers are still working on their dream of winning the regional tournaments for MCC Longview. They have progressed in good fashion with the current record consisting of 22 wins and 15 losses. As the record stands now, the Longview Lakers believe they are in good standing for the regionals and they do believe that they have a good chance of winning one of the trophies while there.
“We’d win over 20 games is what we said and we have more then accomplished that,” said Taylor House, a center fielder for Longview Lakers. House believes that there is a good chance that they will win at the regionals, and possibly go on from there.
“We want to win at regionals,” said second baseman Tim Jacoby.
“We’ve formed bonds and friendships that will last a lifetime,” said first baseman and winner of the Outstanding Baseball Athlete award, Joe Nichols. Nichols believes that there have been true friendships formed while working on the Baseball Team. He believes the friendships to be one of the most fulfilling aspects of the whole matter.
“When I lace up the spikes and step over those white lines, my blood starts flowing, and I get a competitive rush like no other feeling in the world,” Jacoby said. Jacoby thinks that the baseball experience, and what they’ve been through, is very unique. Baseball keeps him and his team mates motivated outside of the playing field, and he believes has helped them with school work.
The baseball players believe that there is something special about the game they play. “Every time I step on the field, I feel the same way I did when was a little kid just happy to get to play the game I love.” House said. House believes that what the baseball team has gone through has leaded them to a sense of brotherhood. While working with each other, they have managed to do well as a team, and the Lakers sense of unity is strong.
“I believe it is our duty to help each other so we can accomplish what we’ve set out to do as a team,” said Nichols.
The underlying theme behind the baseball team is that of work and progress. Nichols believes that they have worked hard to achieve the record that they have, and they wish to push the envelope further at the regional tournament. House says that even though they are gifted with the ability to play well, they still have many roads ahead, and many more games to win.
“With the work we have done as baseball players, we will forever be changed as people,” said Nichols.
