Ask anybody on campus this question, “Are you a hard worker?”
On this campus there is one person whose that has her actions speak for herself, and she goes by the name of Bobbie Lewis.
In her first year as the secretary of the Student Government. Lewis says, “I just wanted to be more involved.” Lewis also said that since the student government is not really well known, around campus the job is no cakewalk.
As secretary of the Student Government, Lewis is in charge of a good portion of event planning. The major thing that she wants to accomplish by being in this program is to benefit the students and meet new people around campus.
One of the things that Lewis, wants to achieve is to make first-year students school life a little easier. Lewis also hopes that StuGo will teach her leadership skills that will help her in the business world. After Longview she plans to continue her studies at UMKC, where she will major in business.
One thing Bobbie Lewis would love to see is her fellow classmates get more involved in school. If any body is ever interested in participating in student government, all they have to do is go to room 253 in the Campus Center for more info. StuGo President Jason Blunk and Vice President Kristin Waddle have one word for Bobbie Lewis: “Tremendous.”

Over the years the mobile phone industry has made changes to phones to make life a little bit easier, such as shapes and styles of various phones, and the new global tracking device the G.I.S. system (Global Info System). Now the FCC has made it even easier for customers. Starting Nov. 25, all mobile phone companies must allow customers to keep their mobile phone number, even if the customer decides change providers.
T-Mobile rep Glennae Harvey said, “The major thing that our client has to understand is that the customer has to buy themselves out of the contract with their current company if the one or two-year contract agreement is not up.”
The cost for the buyout of a contract varies from company to company, but can be from $175 to even a whopping $ 450. There aren’t any fees if you do decide to switch your number to another company if your contract has expired.
Verizon Wireless rep Kathy Johnson says that the process of taking your phone number to a different wireless company takes 3-5 days.
The downfall of the new program is that it does not transfer from state to state. So if you happen to be moving to another part of the country, you would have to start from scratch with a brand new phone number.
Additionally, customers will be allowed to transfer their land-line numbers to their cell phones beginning Nov. 25.

Actor Jason Kieren Lee works his way up the Hollywood ladder
by BRAD SHELTON
Jason Lee, a fourth semester student at Longview, began his acting career in 1999, with the film Silence. Although he was given a small role, it introduced him into acting and allowed him to begin his procession into film.
The following year, he was given the leading role in the movie My One and Only, a low-budget film made here in Kansas City, which will be releasing sometime this month at the Tivoli Theatre. He has since appeared in two more movies, The Ring, which will be released at this year’s Kansas City Film Festival and The Painting, which was released in November of 2001 at the Tivoli.
Because there is already an actor named Jason Lee, Jason goes by his middle name Kieran (pronounced Ka-ron) as his stage name. Jason is currently working on a degree in speech and drama and feels that Longview could offer a better variety of classes that allow students a much more in-depth look into the profession of film. Since Longview only offers a few classes that can help him obtain a master’s degree, Jason plans on attending NYU in the fall of 2004.
There he hopes to continue his education in film and, if the “film gods” are with him, get a break that allows him to work more closely with renowned producers and directors. Jason envisions himself as a young Marlon Wayans and hopes to take a similar path. He is a big fan of Denzel Washington, Omar Epps and Leroy Jackson, a lesser-known actor Lee was fortunate enough to see perform at the 13th St. Theatre in Chicago, who helped Jason realize what he needed to do to succeed as an actor.
With hard work and determination Kansas City may someday have a hometown actor to call our own.
