Phi Theta Kappa on the Phone for KCPT

MCC-Longview’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter helped run KCPT’s semi-annual telethon April 3 to help raise money for the station and its programming.

“Our group of 14 volunteers answered phones for several hours, taking donations and selling tickets to KCPT events,” said Phi Theta Kappa president J.R. Byers. “We helped raise over $14,000 during our block of time on the phones.” [...]

PHI THETA KAPPA PUTS ON GREEN FASHION SHOW

MCC Longview’s Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, encourages everyone to participate in the green movement, all while having fun. On April 22 at 7 p.m., the group will host a fashion show for the whole community to attend. High school students, faculty, MCC students, and family and friends are all welcome. Major Thrift & Discount store will sponsor the event to highlight clothes for all age groups, styles, professions and occasions.

    LV COMMON READING: AFFLUENZA

    Even with the many different books, materials and, well, more books required for classes at MCC, students in classes such as English, psychology, history, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, biology and reading will put down those dreaded textbooks to pick up a more popular book on campus: Affluenza, Longview’s 2010 common reading project. 

    The book, by John De Graaf, David Wann and Thomas H. Naylor, defines “affluenza” as “a painful, contagious, socially transmitted condition of overload, debt, anxiety, and waste resulting from the dogged pursuit of more.”
