Returning Students Bring Anxiety, Experience to Classrooms

With the recession lingering on, it is not news that many adults are returning to school for more earning potential, if not simply employment.

“There has definitely been an increase [in returning adults],” said Kelly Young, Academic Advisor at Maple Woods. According to Young, they are concerned about their study habits and their ability to keep up. ”Some feel they may be out-of-place because they are older than the other students,” she said. PV Nursing Program Boasts High Pass-Rate on Board Exams

As the leading provider of professional nurses to the 26 hospitals in the Kansas City metropolitan area, MCC-Penn Valley’s professional nursing program has thrived on its reputation: success for its graduates. 

One of the key elements used to measure the success of an educational program is the NCLEX-RN pass rate.  Penn Valley historically has done very well on the licensing exam.  Of the 66 students who graduated in May 2010 only one has not been successful on the exam, according to Pat Winberg, Retention Coordinator for the nursing program. The school has boasted a 92.8 percent pass rate for the calendar year, she said.

LV Holds Auditions for A Flea in Her Ear

BoBette’s MCC-Longview Dinner Theater will hold auditions for its fall production, A Flea in Her Ear,  from 6 – 8 p.m. on Aug 16 and 17 in Liberal Arts 102.The farce by David Ives, will be performed Oct. 15, 16, 22 and 23 in Longview’s Cultural Arts Center. Auditions are open to students and the community.  BoBette’s is a Mentoring-in-the-Arts program in which students have the opportunity to work with professional actors.
