Ever wanted to participate in a race where you can run, walk or jog? Oct. 13, MCC- Blue River will host Run Thru the River 5k, a race that allows participants to choose whether they want to run, walk or jog through the Blue River campus.
“The run is through the campus, not through a river,” said Blue River soccer coach Dave Owens. Owens is optimistic for the event, as it is on its second year. Last year, the race was held at Blue River in June. More than 60 participants are registered, and walk-ups are welcome on the day of the race.
One of the incentives of the race is that it is chipped timed, so racers will know their time at the end of the race. Prizes will be awarded to those with the fastest times in their age groups.
Aside from those prizes, there will also be a raffle at the event with prizes given from different places and restaurants such as Red Robin, Buffalo Wild Wings, and even the college’s bookstore.
“There will be a small health fair with people from Centerpoint,” Owens said. The fee is $15 for MCC students and $20 for everyone else.
“The money raised goes back to the school, but this year we might break even,” said Owens. The activity itself promotes the idea of having a healthy time and being active. Owens has high hopes for the event to grow and become even bigger next year.
Walk-up registration for the race begins at 9 a.m. at MCC- Blue River. The race starts that same morning at 10 a.m. For additional information, contact Dave Owens at 816-437-1958 or David.Owens@mcckc.edu.
