It’s official. Apple’s new tablet computer, the iPad, went on sale April 3across the country, but it did not make the splash Apple expected.
“We had a decent line all day,” said sales associate Dillon, at the Apple store in Kansas City, on premiere day. “There was a steady stream of customers.”
However, on the eve of the premiere at 2:40 a.m., no one was standing in line, nor were there any cars waiting for its opening, defying a tradition among techies. The store located on the Plaza had two crowd- stabilizing ropes outside, the windows were covered with black curtains, and the lights were on. A black, tinted-window pickup truck with two KCMO policemen was parked outside.
“We are only here to catch up on reports,” one officer sai. The two denied that they were present in preparation for the event.
